RESIDENCY

The Indian Ceramic Art Foundation (ICAF) Residency Program is a dynamic initiative designed to support artists, encourage experimentation, and build meaningful dialogue within the field of contemporary ceramics. The program aims to create a space where artists, designers, and makers from diverse backgrounds can engage deeply with clay while exploring new ideas, materials, and processes.

Through the residency, ICAF seeks to strengthen the ceramic arts community in India by providing opportunities for research, collaboration, and creative development. Residents are encouraged to experiment with form, surface, and firing techniques while engaging with the broader cultural and craft traditions connected to clay. The program also fosters interaction between contemporary artists and traditional makers, creating a bridge between heritage and new artistic practices.

So far, the ICAF Residency Program has been hosted in collaboration with several important ceramic and art spaces in India, including Baroda Ceramic Centre, Anvi Pottery, and Kanoria Centre for Arts. Each residency location offers a unique environment, allowing artists to experience different studio setups, communities, and regional influences while developing their work.

A key aspect of the program is the exchange of ideas. Artist talks, workshops, and open studio interactions often form part of the residency, allowing participants to share their processes and engage with local artists, students, and audiences. These interactions help build awareness and appreciation for contemporary ceramic practice while strengthening networks within the creative community.

Looking ahead, the Indian Ceramic Art Foundation plans to expand the residency by collaborating with more art centres, studios, and institutions across India and internationally. By building these partnerships, ICAF aims to create a wider platform for artistic exchange and cultural dialogue, offering artists opportunities to work in diverse contexts and contribute to the evolving landscape of contemporary ceramics.
